Root Word: Writing Challenge

Root Word- dict (speak, say, tell)

Dictator, Addiction, Predict, Addictive, Dictionary

Once upon a time on an evil stormy night, this evil dictator had gone on a rampage. He had gotten angry because no one knew any words in the dictionary. They were to busy addicted to video games. So, he had made everyone his own personal slaves. He taught them words, and made them study their heads off, about words. He had made everyone speak to each other and he predicted that he wasn't going to be evil anymore. He had actually saved the world, from obesity and had made people actually socialize. He had saved the world! He was no longer an evil dictator.

I've always been around people who have loved to help others, and risked their lives for others. My father has been a fireman for a while and I want to help others too. He made me see that it is a special feeling helping others. That's why I want to become an F.B.I Profiler when I grow up. I love to help others and to be able to do this job, would be an amazing accomplishment. I already watch Criminal Minds which is why I would like to do it. While watching the tv show I can figure out who was the murderer by just watching the first beginning. In my household it gets pretty serious while watching tv shows like this. So, when I grow up I would like to become an F.B.I Profiler. That's what I would like to do with my one wild and precious life.

The Video
By: Kevin Glaze

Sean had an amazing life. He would always wake up on the right side of the bed. He was completely positive to everyone. Even if they were a stranger he had just met. There was something that no one knew about him, not even his family. Not a lot of people have what he has.
He… can see… ghosts!
Sean had just moved into this gigantic beige three story house. It was perfect for him. Almost too perfect. He was unpacking his old movies in the attic. He discovered a tape that was left behind from the old owner. It had nothing written on the cover of the cd. He decided to play the video on this old tv that he found. His curiousness got the best of him and he decided to watch it. That was a bad idea.
As the video started, it was dark and all you heard was screaming.
“AHHH!!!” screamed Sean. He was startled because he didn’t expect that right away on the video. Then all of a sudden the screen faded to a young girl in a dark room, wit chains everywhere. There was an eerie feeling about the video. The young girl popped up on the screen, with a blindfold around her eyes. Her hair was dark brown and she had chain marks all over her wrists. Then, he saw a guy, with a mask that looked like a hog, with tusks.
The man with the mask kept torturing her with a whip.
“What the heck is this?” questioned Sean. He couldn’t stand watching it anymore. So, he took the remote, and turned off the tv.
He went to his bedroom and fell asleep watching that strange video. Something made him feel like waking up in the middle of the night. He heard a woman who sounded familiar. But he lived alone.
As his eyes slowly opened, he saw a young girl with long dark brown hair. Sean realized it was the girl in the video.
“Who are you?” asked Sean.
“My name is Alexandria Gordon,” she answered.
“My name is Sean Johnson,” Sean replied,”what are you doing here?”
“I’m here to get revenge on you,” Alexandria yelled.
“Why?” asked Sean. “I didn’t do anything to you!”
“I don’t believe you!” Alexandria said.
“That video looks like it was taken in like the 70’s,” Sean explained, “I’m only 27.”
Oh, well then help me find the person, who killed me,” Alexandria exclaimed beggingly.
“How am I going to do that?” asked Sean.
“He would show me his face after the camera was turned off,” Alexandria explained.
“That’s weird,” Sean said, “what was his name?”
“Michael Fernando, he lives on 13th ave, house number 13,” Alexandria informed.
“Okay I’ll do it,” Sean said bravely.
The next day Sean drove to the house at around noon. A creepy man opened the door with an odd smile. The man looked like he had a bald head, wide open green eyes, pearly white teeth. He also, had a 5 o’clock shadow.
“Hello there,” said Michael.
“I’m here to talk about Alexandria,” Sean explained.
“Oh, you are?” Michael said unsure.
“Duh,” Sean said sarcastically.
“Well, come on in and we can talk about her in here,” exclaimed Michael.
“Okay,” Sean said. Sean walked into his beautiful house. When the door opened it was a living room. Then, he walked down a long hallway with MIchael, to this one specific room. Michael opened the door gesturing Sean to go into the room first. Sean realized that the room looked like the one in the video. One question kept running through his head.
“How did MIchael get her all the way down to here?” ran through Sean’s head. Sean surprisingly went into the room. He saw chains and a skeleton, it was Alexandria’s. Sean thought Michael went in behind him, but Sean was the only one in the room. Michael looked through the window on the door, and shut and locked the door. Then, in the corner of Sean’s eye, he saw Alexandria.
“What are you doing here?” asked Sean.
“I’m trying to get you out of here,” Alexandria exclaimed.
“But I didn’t get revenge for you,” Sean said.
“That’s not important now, you need to get out of here, NOW!!!!!” Alexandria warned.
“Okay, well what do I do?” asked Sean.
“Well, under the floorboard in the right corner, is a secret door, which leads to a room,” Alexandria explained.
So, Sean quickly ran over to the corner, but then he heard footsteps.
“Oh gosh I have to hurry up,” Sean said quietly. He opened the door right before Michael saw through the window into the room.
Sean walked down four steps before realizing what it was. There were skeletons in brown cardboard boxes. On the other side of the room, was another set of stairs that led  to outside.
“Sean hurry up and run over to the stairs!” Alexandria screamed. So, he ran over and popped open the door. By looking at the sky Sean could see that it was 8 p.m. He heard leaves moving like footsteps. Then, Michael was right in front of him.
“Hahaha I’ve got you now,” Michael said creepily.
“No you don’t,” Sean warned. Then, Sean punched him right in the temple. Then, Michael flopped onto the ground and he didn’t move.
“Oh my gosh, what did I just do?” asked Sean to himself.
“Good job Sean,” Alexandria said happily, “I can now go to heaven, I can see the light.”
Sean hid his body to decompose right under Earth’s leaves. No one suspected a thing when he got home, to his hometown. No one found Michael’s body. No one knew about what Sean had done, except for one person.
Michael.

He visits Sean in his dreams every night. Which eats himself, to feel guilty every time. He had a very bad dream, which made him wake up. When Sean woke up he was outside, on a tree with a rope around his neck. The last words Sean heard was “This is what you get for killing me.” Then, the rope was pulled.

Not Fair
By: Kevin Glaze

“Mom! Mom! It’s time for my game!” shouted Laura.
“I’m coming, I’m coming!” her mom screeched. Laura was going to be late for her softball game. Her brother Keith, hated this part of the weekend.
“Dad, are you ready to listen about Laura for a whole nother week?” asked Keith. Keith’s dad knew it bothered him, because it bothered himself a little too.
“Yeah, but I actually can’t wait for your football game,” explained their dad.
“Thanks dad!” mumbled Keith.
“You’re welcome!” replied his dad sympathetic, with a smirk on his face.
The whole family rushed into the car and started to drive. After an hour and a half, they got to the softball field. Right away Laura started sprinting to the softball field so she wasn’t late. As soon as Laura got to the field the game was just about to begin. The team was hitting first, and Laura was first to bat. All of a sudden, BAM!
“Yes Laura!” shouted everyone in the stands. Laura hit a ball right in the middle of the plate. She hit a home run right over center field. This is so annoying, Keith kept saying in his head. After 2 hours of an amazing game, Laura’s team one 6-4. The family quickly got to the car and headed home.
“You had an amazing game!” said their mom excitedly.
“I know,” answered Laura.
“They are both ridiculous!” shouted Keith in his head.
“I can be better than her, even if it’s not the same sport,” thought Keith. The family got home and it was time for dinner. They couldn’t figure out what to eat, so they just ordered pizza. After the family ate dinner, they were all so tired, that they went to bed.
The next morning Keith woke up excited, and pumped up for his football game.
“Let’s leave!” shouted Keith upstairs to his dad. His dad came running down the steps. As soon as Keith’s dad put on his shoes, they were running to get into the car. Before they both knew it they were at the football field exactly ten minutes later.
Keith ran to the field where some of his teammates already were. Then, they all had to wait till everyone on his team came. After everyone showed up, his team warmed up and practiced for an hour before the game.
They started the game. The Cougars were kicking on the first play. Keith was ready to get the guy who got the ball. The ref’s blew their whistle.
“Ready on the left!” shouted a kid on his team.
“”Cougars!” shouted the left side of the line.
“Ready on my right!” shouted the same kid.
“Cougars!” shouted the whole right side of the line. Then, the team’s kicker kicked the ball. As soon as he kicked the ball, the whole team stampeded to it.
“AHHH!” screamed Keith. Then all of a sudden he trucked a kid on the other team. The kid flew backwards five yards.
“Yes Keith!” shouted everyone in the stands. As the game kept going, Keith kept trucking people. “Good game Keith,” he thought to himself since he knew his parents wouldn’t say it to him. The team ended up winning 28-7.
“Yay!” shouted the Cougars, as the last play ended. The coaches, had nothing negative to say to the team.
“Guess who your sister saw,” questioned Keith’s mom, as he was coming off of the field.
“I don’t care!” complained Keith.
“Whatever,” said his mom.
“Why couldn’t she have said, good game Keith,”Keith thought to himself. The thought of his mom talking about Laura, after his amazing game, frustrated him and made him so angry he pushed the idea, right to the back of his head.
His family got in the warm heated car, and drove home right after his game. They finally got home and Keith went to Laura to talk to her about mom.
“Mom likes you better, you know I had an amazing game right?” asked Keith.
“Yeah good game,” explained Laura.
“ Well, I come off the field after the game and she started talking about you!” freaked Keith. Keith’s dad knew it bothered him, because it bothered himself a little too.
“She’s annoying,” agreed Laura. After that, Keith realized that Laura is really sympathetic for her brother.
After that day, Keith and Laura’s relationship grew stronger. Their mom still talked about Laura, a lot, but Keith just shrugged it off like it was nothing. After a while Keith grew up and didn’t get so selfish anymore. He realized he had to share his parents attention. Although, every now and then he still thinks, his sister gets all of the attention he finds a way to ignore it.
“Mom always liked me better,” said Laura jokefully.
“I know,” answered Keith. They both would do this sometimes, and would just laugh and laugh. Keith realized that his mom made his relationship better with Laura.
“You know I actually knew that you were jealous the whole time that happened,” explained Laura.
“Then why didn’t you tell me, to make me feel more comfortable at your games?” question Keith.
“ I’m so sorry, I just felt like I couldn’t come to you, but instead you came to me, “ said Laura.
“Well, I couldn’t take it anymore,” explained Keith.
“Thank god we’ve grown up,” explained Laura.
“Tell me about it,” joked Keith. They both felt happy that they had each other. They both ended up with no secret lives. That’s what you think.

I chose to share this part of my story because I liked how my dialogue was written. I also, liked how I used foreshadowing to make the reader wonder what happened. I also, liked how I was specific with how my characters talked to each other. Those are some reasons why I chose this part of my story to share

In my book, Shark Attack and other True stories by Deborah Morris, there is more scenes than summary. There is more scenes because it will have a part of the story in a specific place with a lot of details. Then, it would transfer into another scene/setting with more detail. My author uses more scenes to develop the reader's thinking on what is going to happen. My author also, use scene for an effective purpose. She uses it to develop the setting and get the reader to really imagine what is going on in this book.
